Google recently announced that it will no longer accept political ads in the European Union as of October 2025.
Google, one of the world's largest technology companies, is a giant that offers a wide range of products and services, from search engines to cloud computing, from artificial intelligence solutions to advertising services. This makes it one of the best options for advertising.
Not only companies but also political parties prefer Google for advertising. We can see this especially during election periods. However, according to the latest information, the technology giant has decided to end political advertising in the European Union.
Google will not accept political ads
Google recently announced that it has decided to stop political advertising services in European countries due to new European Union regulations that will come into force in October 2025. In line with this decision, political ads will no longer be displayed on the search engine and YouTube platform.
The EU's regulation, called the Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising Directive, aims to make political ads more transparent and auditable. Abbreviated as TTPA , the regulation introduces strict rules on a wide range of issues, from ad financing to targeting methods.
Google opposes the move, saying it creates operational challenges and legal uncertainties, so much so that Annette Kroeber-Riel , the company’s vice president of government affairs and public policy for Europe, believes the regulation is overly broad.
